About Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is about providing individuals, couples and families with support in their efforts to understand their internal or external world and help create change where they feel it is needed. Beyond that, psychotherapy as a field or as an experience can not easily be summed up, but here are some key aspects of psychotherapy. You might also find it useful to read about my approach.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is a central pillar of psychotherapy and vital to the therapeutic process. Confidentiality is both an ethical standard and a legal mandate for psychotherapists. Except for a number of specific situations - which I explain to all my patients - psychotherapists are required by law to keep psychotherapy confidential. Even the fact of psychotherapy is confidential.

Treatment and Sessions

Although it is impossible to predict with precision how long someone will be in psychotherapy, it is possible for the patient(s) and therapist to discuss regularly how the therapy is going, and what frequency of sessions is best.

Standard sessions are 50 minutes in length. Longer sessions are available for a prorated fee.

Fees and Insurance

Fees are payable at the time service is rendered.

Currently, I do not contract with health insurance companies. However, upon request, I can provide monthly receipts for the services rendered and you can submit those receipts to your health insurance for possible reimbursement. The amount of reimbursement depends on the requirements of your specific insurance plan. You should be aware that insurance plans generally limit coverage to certain diagnosable mental conditions. You should also be aware that you are responsible for verifying and understanding the limits of your insurance coverage.
